Development Programme Manager

Salary: £70,000 - £90,000 Location: South East

Based: Middlesex

Salary: c£80 - £90,000 + Car + bonus + significant benefits

This is a very high profile role within a major UK PLC that will have industry wide visibility. The programme value will be c£50m but will be extremely challenging due to its pioneering nature and balancing the needs of many stakeholders.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding Programme Management professional with exceptional stakeholder management skills and have a track record of delivering high value, high profile complex hardware and software technology solutions.

Responsibilities:

  •  Own the entire lifecycle for the creation, build and deployment of the technology and associated systems and infrastructure
  • Work with senior stakeholders negotiating consensus on differing needs, priorities and timeframes
  • Build a strong understanding of the business drivers, domain knowledge and likely benefits of the programme and communicate this to all stakeholders
  • Management of multiple 3rd party suppliers (contractors, System Integration companies and product firms) based in house and off-shore
  •  Oversee all aspects of the engineering ensuring the design and build is fit for purpose and functionally capable of fulfilling needs
  • Take overall responsibility for the budget of c£50m; manage timescales, dependencies and risk
  • Ensure a strong focus on ROI throughout the programme

Skills and Experience:

  • Previous demonstrable experience of programme managing high profile complex software and hardware engineering programmes where the emphasis is on robustness, ease of build, reliability and ease of use
  • Knowledge of the energy/utilities, telecoms or similar market - ideally with experience of smart meters and/or billing or customer management solutions
  • Pragmatic, can-do attitude with a strong focus on detail and delivery
  • Proven ability to work with the business to define programmes from an early stage but also understand the technical landscape and challenges and deliver successfully
  • Strong track record of programme management governance and methodologies. Ideally Prince, Agile and ITIL qualified
  • Knowledge/experience of Six Sigma an advantage
  • Strong leadership skills - able to manage large distributed teams effectively
  • A strong influencer and clear creative and lateral thinker with strong commercial and business acumen. Willing and able to challenge at a board level if required
  • A capable negotiator and excellent communicator, both internally and with third parties

You must be a UK / EU National or already be resident in the UK and have a current Work Permit.

Qualifying Questions:

  1. Have you programme managed large-scale (£30m+) IT/IS programmes where there is a high degree of complexity and change?
  2. Do you have experience of large-scale smart metering, customer billing, CRM or similar projects within the energy/utilities, telecoms or consumer space?
  3. Have you managed 3rd party suppliers
  4. Do you have experience of working to board level within a FTSE 50 scale company?
