The product is potentially industry changing and in today's climate, it is likely to be a 'must have' purchase. There are no directly competitive solutions in the market and the product is addressing a widely acknowledged pain-point for businesses.

They wish to appoint their first Technical Author to write and produce both complex design documentation and easy to understand, professionally presented user manuals.

The product enables hugely simplified interactions for users to navigate around and understand extremely complex data, processes and regulations. The technical author will need to capture and communicate the functionality in an elegant and easy to digest manner.

They have a preference for hiring a contractor in the first instance but the role may become permanent over time.

Responsibilities:

The role will involve working closely with an AGILE development team and business experts to lead the production of high-quality user and technical documentation targeted across a wide spectrum of user audiences.

You will be responsible for the creation of:

  • Technical user documents covering systems and processes (e.g. IT architecture, system interfaces, and data / work flow).
  • Reference guides covering business methodologies and processes.
  • User manuals, quick-start and set-up guides and system help for internal and external users.

As the first dedicated Technical Author you will be responsible for setting up the authoring environment, establishing templates and style guides and working closely with Marketing to ensure all documentation is aligned with corporate branding and standards.

The technical author will create both paper-based and online documentation.

Skills and Experience:

The successful candidate will have previous experience of writing and producing online and print documentation for complex software with the target audience covering both business and technical users.

  • The candidate must be educated to degree level and have a strong attention to detail, excellent writing and presentation skills combined with good information gathering abilities.
  • The candidate will have an overall appreciation of the software development lifecycle and ideally previous experience of an AGILE development environment.
  • Knowledge of both Web and Windows based applications is essential.
  • The successful candidate will have an expert level of ability with various web- and print-based authoring tools.

You will have gained your experience within complex software development environments within the financial services, telecommunications, enterprise applications, infrastructure, or other software technology intensive industries.

You must be a UK / EU National or already be resident in the UK with a current Work Permit.

Qualifying Questions:

  1. Have you been a Technical Author responsible for creating technical and user documentation for complex enterprise scale products?
  2. Are you eligible to work in the UK?
